Happy New Year!

Hello friends,

Here’s wishing everyone a happy, creative, and fulfilling 2015!

We managed to do quite a bit last year. The Design Evening community grew to almost 300 members, we had events every month, met new folk, and learnt new stuff!

If you couldn’t join us, we began the year with several learning-through-doing sessions where we solved grassroots or open-source design problems. We changed course a little and went back to basics to bring some of our newer design buddies along.

We have a lot planned for the year! Before we kick it off though, we figured a small celebrations is in order. So, the first session of the year is “Design & Daaru” (aka Design Happy Hour)

We hope you can join us to hang out with old friends, meet new ones, and navigate your 2015 design journey with other creatives.

Please RSVP and we hope to see you there.

Please RSVP!

WHEN: Thursday, January 15th. 5pm onwards
WHERE: Heart Cup, Jubilee Hills

Thanks to our sponsors there will be some free goodies at the event!

Dec 13: More about Ordering Disorder

Creative friends!

We’re meeting on Saturday, December 13th to discuss Ordering Disorder. It’s a session dedicated grids and layout!

We have two awesome speakers lined up for the event!

  • Arpan Chinta will provide an overview of grids in web layout and how to work within and outside of them. Learn from experience and learn through examples.
  • Jai Undurti will be speaking about panel breakdowns in comic books. How does one break up the action in a page into discrete panels/images; also some context on translating script into a coherent visual narrative.

Space is limited, so please RSVP!

Please RSVP!

As with any design evening, the event is full of dialog, discussions, and learning from each other. So, come join us with your examples and stories of what has worked and not in your lives!

More about our speakers:

Arpan been designing & developing web applications for more than 9 years. He now specialize in cross-device Responsive Web Design and Web application accessibility. Dec 13: Ordering Disorder

Earlier this year we decided to go back to basics for a little while!

Join us for the last Design Evening session of the year, where we wrap up  our Visual Design 101 series with a discussion about grids in print & web layout.

As always, you’ll also have the opportunity to mingle and network with other creatives, eat some yummy snacks, and get your creative juices flowing!

Mar 8: Mapping Memories

Design Evening is a creative space for solving problems through design thinking, imagination, and creativity.

The Mapping Memories design evening will focus on creating an immersive experience for anyone to be able to tell a story and find out more about the histories that surround them.

Mapping Memories is an open source solution that is currently in the design & planning stage. The goal of the product will be to allow anyone to create, curate, and tag content with a place & a time. This in turn will facilate a story about a place in time.

  • When: Mar 8th, 2014 at 3:00 pm
  • Where: Hyderabad Institute for Liberal Arts.
03, B block, Delta Seacon, Road 11 Banjara Hills Hyderabad

Eventbrite - Design Evenings: Mapping memories

Anyone who is curious about a time & place in history.

Design Challenge

How does one connect the dots between various assets (video, audio, photos etc) that are associated with a time and a place that tells a story and allows one to imagine themselves there – a virtual time machine.

The design needs to be easily understood and engaging. It should create evangelists who spread the word about the stories they have heard and inspire people to contribute.

Here are some similar projects that could help.

Feb 22nd: Logo Love

NOTE: This was originally scheduled for Feb 8th. Due to The Goa Project & Meta Refresh on subsequent weekend in February we have postponed it.

Join us for an evening with Sandeep Dev  for a workshop on logo design.

We’ll be learning about the basics of logo design and then iterating on some designs for local, community driven projects.

  • When: February 22nd, 2014 at 3:00 pm
  • Where: Hyderabad Institute for Liberal Arts.
03, B block, Delta Seacon, Road 11 Banjara Hills Hyderabad

Eventbrite - Hyderabad Design Evenings: Logo Love

Hyderabad locals – do you have an open source solution or community programme you would like a logo for? If so, send us an email!

Hope to see you there for an evening of creativity, collaboration, and learning!

Jan 11th: get RTI

The getRTI team has requested Hyderabad Design Evenings to brainstorm solutions around their open source repository to help anyone file and get access to RTI (Right to Information) requests.

Eventbrite - Hyderabad Design Evenings: getRTI

User Persona

Pretty much anyone who needs access to information from the Government. A citizen, activist group, government entity.

Design Challenge

The getRTI repository has 1000’s of documents that have been categorized/tagged by geography, subject, department, etc. At Design Evenings we will be:

  • Iterating through the ideal way for users to be able to search & find information
  • Display patterns found in this data. For example “There is a concentration of RTI requests regarding police brutality in region XYZ”

About the app

GetRTI is both a crowd-sourced public repository of all RTI information as well as a filing platform. Anyone can  can use this platform to search from hundreds and eventually thousands of requests as well as reuse data.

  • Data of RTI applications, replies in terms of subject of the application, department, geography etc would be available.
  • The citizen could search for a specific RTI information if its already filed by somebody, activist groups could use this data to campaign for better proactive disclosure policies, greater transparency from departments where there is greater demand for information. Government could use this data to improve their disclosure regime.
